Esports Gaming Team OG is one of the best-known Dota 2 teams worldwide. Athenians are well known for their aggressive and fast-paced gameplay, which enables them to eliminate potential opponents early in a matchup.
OG’s history
Team OG is one of the most beloved European Dota 2 teams ever seen, and their feat of winning The International against all odds will never be forgotten by fans.
Starting out as (monkey) Business in 2015 and later changing to OG in October of that same year, they quickly made themselves known by defeating teams such as Evil Geniuses, CDEC Gaming, and Team Secret.
OG were widely known for their off-meta strategy, which centred around Io and Tiny pairing. This allowed them to draft unique picks that often caught opposing teams off guard.
However, that did not stop them from losing several tournaments; ultimately missing out on DreamLeague Season 4, but their performance eventually improved over time.
Even though they had less-than-stellar results this season, they still managed to qualify for several tournaments such as ESL One Katowice 2018 and The Bucharest Major despite not directly qualifying for The International 2018. Unfortunately, however, this meant they missed out on directly qualifying for The International 2018.
OG’s roster
OG has won several major Dota 2 tournaments, earning fame for their unconventional drafts and chaotic energy. Considered one of the premier Dota 2 teams, their unconventional drafts and energy have proven winning strategies that many others cannot match.
OG have seen considerable success over the years; yet recently have found themselves struggling. They failed to qualify for Lima Major 2022 and just narrowly missed qualifying for ESL One Berlin during DPC Winter Tour 2019.
Recently, the team announced an expansive roster change: former team captain Mikhail “Misha” Agatov will step away from starting lineup and become coach; Evgenii “Chu” Makarov, currently listed as their sixth member, will replace him in starting line-up.
OG’s new roster boasts an eclectic group of players ranging from relative unknowns to former tournament champions. This marks a new era for the organization; though this roster may not challenge DPC’s top four teams directly, it has its own championship potential.
OG’s strategy
OG Esports Gaming Team has achieved remarkable success over time, winning multiple Dota 2 Majors since it first formed. Led by Johan “N0tail” Fllesen and featuring veteran players such as N0tail, Fly, Miracle- and Cr1t- as their core, the team made its breakthrough during the Frankfurt Major in November 2015 where it secured their breakthrough victory.
Team Philippines have since gone on to win the Manila Major and have seen steady success on the pro scene, though not without encountering some ups and downs in their history.
One of the team’s main issues in the past was lack of support. Players often found it hard to manage the stress associated with tournament play; Lisa Stellberg helped address this.
OG’s performance
OG made an outstanding start to their season by winning two The International tournament titles consecutively, an unprecedented feat in Dota 2. They became the first team ever to achieve such an accomplishment and became part of history by becoming the first ever to do so!
After struggling in patches 7.32 and 7.32b, OG finally found their stride and dominated throughout the tournament. Their power surge proved too much even for Team Secret to handle, with OG taking home victory with a 3-1 score in the Grand Final.
OG also secured their place in a tiebreaker matchup against Entity to secure their participation at Berlin Major, giving their team an important boost ahead of future matches. This victory marked a true team victory and gave OG much-needed confidence before facing their next opponent, Team Liquid.
OG has also joined forces with Rumble Gaming, an esports talent agency representing several of the top teams such as London Royal Ravens, Lazarus, and Rogue. According to JMR Luna’s newly appointed CEO position, this partnership will allow OG to connect with both brands and esports enthusiasts in North America.
